Surgery Desciption

Phacoemulsification is performed in a patient with heightened sensitivity. The discomfort-inducing components of the procedure are discussed, and techniques are employed to permit surgery to proceed safely while avoiding the need for increased sedation.

Learning Objective

After completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to increase awareness of issues encountered when performing cataract surgery on hyperesthetic patients.
